I have reservations...

...at a hotel in downtown Milwaukee for the first weekend of Oct.  Why?  Because that Sunday is the Lakefront Marathon, which will be my first.  I long planned that Grand Rapids would be my first, but since DH will be out-of-state that weekend it's just not an option--I'd have no support(ie head cheerleader) and no one to watch DS.  I still have to register for the race, but I have time.  The price goes up in a week, so I will likely be doing so in the next few days.

Milwaukee will be a cool event, anyhow...the course is almost slightly downhill the entire way, it's in my home state, and my folks, siblings, nephews and other extended family should be able to attend, which will be a real treat.  My best friend is planning to make the road-trip to WI, too, so I will still have her there with me.  I hope we are both able to stick together for this race and both arrive at the starting line in good shape.  I will still plan to go to Grand Rapids on the day of their marathon, but as a spectator/cheerleader for other friends who are planning to enter that race.  I had considered doing the half-marathon, but it's only 2 weeks after Milwaukee, so I have no idea if I will be up to it...plus it is MORE expensive than the MLM, so that starts to get expensive, especially considering the weekend in Milwaukee is not likely to be cheap.

Today is Derek's birthday.  He is 36.  Ha, he is once again older than I...for the last 10 days we were the same age.

  1. Happy Birthday, did!

How exciting Zoomie! Sounds like this will be a cool race. So many races... so little time. :-)

I've been talking with a friend of mine that was planning on running the 5/3 Riverbank Run with one of her running pals, who has recently backed out of the race for now. Since DW is having issues with her legs again, both shins, I don't think it would be wise for us to sign up for the Flying Pig Half as I don't think she would be able to complete the training and run the race due to her legs.

So... we are considering going to GR for the Riverbank Run, DW could get herself through the 10K race, and I would run the 25K with our friend and her daughter. So, we may see you there?

  2. Awww...I'm sorry that your wife is having shin issues...BTDT--misery. But that would be awesome if you guys made it to 5/3 instead! I love that they added the 10k. I have a feeling that will bring a whole lot of folks out who don't enjoy 5ks, but aren't yet ready for 25.

  3. My only concern right now is that we need to decide soon because, I have a feeling the 10K will fill up quickly. Although, I don't know if they have put a limit on the race or not. How big is the 25K field?

  4. You know...I'm not really sure if they cap any of the 5/3 races. From what I can recall the 5k was huge. Even though the 25k is the largest in the nation, the 5k is still a bigger turnout. I wonder if the 5k will be smaller this year, since there are bound to be folks who do the 10k instead.

I know...I still need to register. It's getting $$. I need to do the marathon registration before 2/28 to get in on the lowest rate before the first increase...plus 5/3, a 15k next month, a 10 miler in April, and a 15k in June.

  5. I'm so excited for you!!! Yay!!! I can't wait to follow your training and see you kick this marathon's butt! Hopefully I can be just as encouraging as you've been for me! When do you start training?

  6. Awww...thanks girl! Training starts June 1--a few weeks after I complete my 25k. I'm hoping to get up to 40 miles/week before the 25k, then take it easier for a couple of weeks and start my marathon training in the 30-35 mile/week range. I'd like to get up to 45-50 miles/week for the marathon training.

    :)
