Not a *real* race report...

Suffice it to say, taking 11/11 in my AG (finish time 1:32:06) doesn't have me real eager to relive the experience.  High humidity (Avg. 87%, high 94%) + asthma = recipe for shitty 15k race.  I had expected to easily be under 1:30.  This race felt like Riverbank Run "lite."  9.3 miles of asthma attack, rather than 15.5.

On the upside: I did PR (barely...and my last 15k was in March on a brutal course covered in 6" of fresh snow and ice on rural backroads--yesterday's course was mostly flat), my right knee felt fine (still does this AM), and I got to meet two of my RA buddies--Mike "Power of Q" and Tony "Mulks."  Definitely two of the nicest runners I have ever had the pleasure to meet.  I can't wait to run races with those boys in the future.  Perhaps CRIM, next year...?

After the race we went over to my MIL's place for a day of hanging out with some of DH's co-workers and their kids (8 blonde kids running around...looked like a family reunion).  That was a lot of fun, but when we arrived home at 9pm I was nearly shaking with exhaustion.  I slept very poorly...restless, shallow sleep.  I'm feelin' pretty rough today.

Gotta go get my abs and quad workout in, then shower (after I finish this mug of much-needed coffee).  Derek is on his weekly JDRF team ride and they are expecting to do 50 miles.  After he is home and showered we will go back over to MIL's to head over to see Wall•E with my MIL and DS (he stayed with grandma last night).

  1. I know you aren't thrilled about this race, but I'm proud of you! A PR is a PR and you overcame a lot with that knee of yours. The heat and humidity sucks... I bitch about this all the time. I can't even imagine what it would be like to run through this soupy air as an asmathic. You'll have better races once the weather breaks... that I'm sure of!!!

In the meantime, you have another race under your belt AND a new PR! Good for you!!!! :o)

  2. Ditto what Sherry said on the race... especially the last two sentences. Hang in there... fall will be here before we know it and you'll get some relief on the humidity side.

I am SO excited you got to meet Mike and Tony! That's SO cool! I would really have loved to have been a part of that as well. Someday soon though I am sure.

Hey, I may even be able to do one of my first runs *back* with you next month too when we're over your way if things are going ok with me physically and we can work it out. I was thinkin' yesterday too, perhaps we could plan a day to meet you at a nice lake down your way and you could bring Dane with you and we'll bring the boat down and we can boat, tube, ski, whatever, and have a picnic or something? Whatcha think?

  3. Oh... not to exclude Derek either, that wasn't intentional, but I just assumed he would likely be working, but if he wanted to take a day or afternoon off and join us, that would be great! Heh, you'll get to see how fat I have gotten in just 3 short months! GAH!

  4. Ooh, Rick--I LOVE that idea! And I'll bet Derek would take a day off just to meet you, too! He loves a good excuse to cut out of work here and there.

    :D

I'm so glad to hear your leg is treating you well--you deserve that! And just in time to get back in the game for beautiful Fall running, too!

    :)

  5. Well, girl... run it by did, and I'll do the same with Tammy and our friends, who I'm sure wouldn't mind a nice day at a lake picnicing and boating, tubing, skiing... blah, blah, blah. We'll be out Sunday, August 10th, and returning home Friday morning August 15th. If there is a best day for your family that week, lemme know. Your always welcome to join us at the beach in Ludington as well, though I know it's not your favorite. Heck, we could meet you at Duck Lake for that matter. I have never been there though and don't know what the lake/beaches are like. Our e-mail is rtvelich at buckeye-express dot com.

  6. Wha...Ludington not my fave? I've never been there, though I've always heard that their beach is really wonderful--what I have seen from my car looks lovely. I wouldn't mind a trip up that way at all...it's a nice drive from here.

I'll definitely see what did thinks, though there is a chance that the didlet won't be around. He's going to IL with his grandma for about a week around the beginning of Aug. But that would be a good opportunity for us to come up there for the evening and do dinner and not have to worry about being home for bedtime or anything.

    :)

  7. Cool! Though I'd love to meet the didlet as well. We'll be childless as well on this particular trip.
